2016 VINTAGE
Vintage 2016 had near perfect weather and continues the streak of great California vintages. Winter gave us our average amount of rainfall followed by a warm spring that allowed most varieties to set a nice crop. August cooled things off and allowed some increase in hang time, and we didn’t see any major heat spikes during September and October.
WINEMAKER NOTES
“Our Small Block Series Collector’s Cuvée is a unique treat inspired by the blends crafted during our annual Blending Party each April. For this vintage, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon dominate with Malbec and Petite Verdot added to create a perfect harmony. This bold wine is deep and rich in color and offers aromas of black cherry, wild mountain blackberries and hints of vanilla oak. Rich and juicy upon entry, delicious black currants and black plum play on the palate with well-integrated tannins and notes of cocoa and fresh ground coffee presenting on the long finish.”
– Dave Guffy, Director of Winemaking
FOOD PAIRING SUGGESTIONS
“This wine will stand well alongside braised or grilled meats like lamb, pork or duck dressed with sweet onions and earthy accents from mushrooms, eggplant and wild fennel. Hard cheeses with popular sea salt crystals such as Bravo Farms Silver Mountain or Beecher’s Flagship Reserve are just the thing to show off contrasting and complementary tastes.”
– Chad Hendrickson, Executive Chef
