The lion we feature proudly on The Icons has been the emblem of the Hess Family for nine generations. It marks The Lion Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and The Lioness Chardonnay as the two pinnacle wines of The Hess Collection.
About

Our lion emblem, inspired by the Hess family crest, has come to symbolize the bold and persevering nature of founder Donald Hess and our winery home on Mount Veeder.  The Icons showcases the two pinnacle wines of The Hess Collection — The Lion and The Lioness.

The Icons 2-pack features one bottle each:

  • 2021 The Lioness Napa Valley Chardonnay - 93 POINTS Wine Enthusiast
  • 2019 The Lion Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon - 97 POINTS & CELLAR SELECTION, Wine Enthusiast

The Lion Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced exclusively from our Veeder Hills Vineyard, offers deep and abundant layers of wild mountain brambles, bay leaves and violets, dark cocoa and warm spices. Consulting winemaker Celia Welch collaborates with Dave Guffy to craft this distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon. The Lion is only made in the best vintages, making Library Vintages extremely rare. 

The Lioness Chardonnay reflects the abundance and power of Napa Valley through low-intervention winemaking techniques, allowing our best fruit to shine. Soft aromas of lemon curd and toast lead to flavors of cooked Golden Delicious apples, sweet cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.
